Andrea Cannon Masterclass

In the beginning of the month, Andrea Cannon did a masterclass at NCGS for students of the studio as well as students of the surrounding community.  We had 3 wonderful players perform for Andrea, and they all received a wonderful class!

Many topics were covered included how to practice and enjoy your own playing, developing and confirming your musical interpretation and the inner workings of counterpoint in Bach's music!

If you are interested in seeing photos from the class, visit the photo gallery!

Thank you to Andrea for making NCGS's first masterclass an amazing success, and thank you to the students who performed -- you all played wonderfully!

In April NCGS is looking forward to be bringing in Antigoni Goni for a Masterclass and Concert!  More information will come soon!

The Masterclass and Concert Series provides the guitar community of Hartford and Tolland Counties with wonderful classes and concerts from national and international artists.  Each year we bring in 2 guest artists who provide a masterclass for the students of NCGS as well as guitarists in the surrounding community.  In addition, these guest artists may give a concert as well.

2014-2015 marks the inaugural season of our series.  I'm pleased to announce that we have two wonderful guest artists.  Our first guest artist is Andrea Cannon who will be giving a masterclass to guitarists on November 2nd.  She's a Suzuki Teacher-Trainer and has provided masterclasses throughout the world.

Our second guest artist is Antigoni Goni.  I'm pleased to have my former teacher from the Juilliard Pre-College working with my students!  In addition to her masterclass, Ms. Goni will be presenting a solo recital.  Her visit will be in April with more details to follow.

For more information regarding the series, please refer to the Masterclass and Concert Series page.

NCGS is proud to announce that we'll be presenting our first Student Solo Recital.  Liam Calhoun (NCGS student) will be giving his first full length solo classical guitar recital on October 17th, 2014 at 6:30pm.  The concert will take place at Beller's Music, 881 Main Street, Manchester, CT.  The event is free and open to the public with a reception to follow.

Suzuki students have a tradition of performing all of the pieces they've learned in a given book upon graduation and moving to the next book.  In Liam's case, as he moves to Suzuki Book 5, he will be performing selections from Suzuki Books 2-4.  Please come join us in this wonderful celebration!

Thanks to Beller's Music and the DuBaldo family for providing the venue and hosting this performance.

Intro To Classical Guitar Class at MCC

9/9/2014

With the Fall Term well under way, I'm pleased to announce that Manchester Community College will be continuing my Introduction to Classical Guitar class.  This is a great class for adult guitar enthusiasts who haven't had much formal guitar training.  Those adults interested in learning classical guitar will find this class to be enjoyable and engaging.
Learn the basics of fingerstyle classical guitar technique and note reading. This class is for both beginners to music and guitar, as well as people who want to learn classical technique and develop their reading skills. You will learn to play simple and familiar melodies, basic accompaniment patterns and a simple classical guitar piece.  Some break-out sessions, with an opportunity to work individually and in small groups with the instructor, will be included as part of the course.

The class introduces the fundamentals of playing classical guitar, as well as allowing more advanced students to continue to develop their ability if they've taken the class before or have had prior experience on the guitar.  Group classes of adults are always a wonderful way for everyone to learn from one another in a fun and supportive environment.  The class is great for those who've never played the guitar, or hobbyists who'd like to get a bit more instruction.

Over the course of the class you'll learn/experience:

- Basics of sitting and holding the guitar
- Fundamental Right and Left Hand Technique
- Reading music notation in 1st position on the guitar
- Basic Music Theory knowledge and how it applies to the guitar
- Playing together as an ensemble
- Break out sessions in either a one-on-one lesson or smaller group instruction
- and MUCH MORE!

The class meets on Thursday evenings from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.  The start date is September 25th, and the class runs for 11 weeks.

If you are interested in registering for the class, please use the downloadable flyer and registration form below.
